About
My name is Kaya Simmons
I am a local here in New Jersey, passionate about minimalism and the environment. Here at the Modest Minimalist, I aim to combine my love for decluttering with creating sustainable environmental change.

My Journey
Everyone starts from somewhere.

I started my minimalist journey during my senior year of high school after feeling emotionally overwhelmed with the clutter in my life. I ended up getting rid of 70% of my belongings and continued to let go every day. After high school, I decided to take a non-traditional route with a gap year full of traveling the world. The following year, I studied at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I have been plant-based for almost six years and throughout my traveling experience have participated in many civil disobedience actions across the globe. My passion for the planet has grown tremendously since starting my minimalism journey.
While helping family friends declutter, I found my passion in being a "Declutter Buddy" for those struggling with letting go. I have been working to build my business through a variety of client types and am eager to continue expanding and educating.
Ongoing Decluttering Education
I completed the online course:
"Hoarding: Cognitive Behavioral Treatment"
I strive to help people discover the "essentials" in their homes and spaces to create room for what truly adds value.
