Step 2 / Declutter and Consolidate

Because Organized Clutter is Still Clutter!

Starting with the least overwhelming space or category, we will use the "Four Box Method."

We will sit together, consolidate, and, item by item, decide which box each item belongs in: keep, donate, recycling, or trash.

Using minimalist and emotional regulation principles, I will help you navigate through the emotional weight of letting go!

This is NOT an easy process, but having someone there to remind you of your goals makes the liberation process less daunting.

Step 3 / "Use What You Have" Organization

Many of us do not have the privilege of owning luxury organizers, so here at The Modest Minimalist, we believe in using what you have!

For us, the most important thing is everyday functionality, visibility, and liberation!

If we can do all of this while using environmentally friendly materials, we've won!

Check out our Projects page for inspiration!

Step 4 / Donations and Removal

At the end of the service, we save time to help you establish the who, what, where, and when of all of your donations.

There are many options for donations but ultimately our goal is to give intentionally, sustainably, and efficiently.

At the end of each session, I will take donations for you to places that I believe are intentional with the items they accept.

However, I also provide a Google Sheets list of donation centers across Northern New Jersey if the client wants to personally handle donations. This provides ease of mind, knowing they are giving intentionally and to organizations that will ACTUALLY use the donations they receive.

How Long Will This Take?:

On average*, this is the estimated amount of time to declutter each space:

  • Pantry - 2 Hours

  • Office Space - 2 Hours

  • Kitchen - 1.5 Hours

  • Closet/Clothing - 1 Hour

  • Basement/Storage - 3 Hours

  • Garage - 5 Hours

At the free consultation, I will suggest the amount of time needed to complete each project

*This number is based on past clients, however each client is different!
